Peterite Try Machine Go At It Again
Even without their skipper Dhanushka Ranjan, St. Peter’s College continue to impress the Singer School’s League with absolute brilliance. Today they took on D.S. Senanayake College at the Air Force Rugby grounds in Ratmalana and barely had a few minutes passed the team was up by 14 points to nil. The final tally read 89 points (12 goals, 1 try) to nil with St. Peter’s leading 47-0 at half time. After the two Perera’s scored the first two tries Jensen made his contribution making the score 21-0. In the 20th minute one of D.S. players was sent off to the sin bin and with the advantage of extra numbers the Peterites scored two more tries first through winger Bhanuka Peiris who ran a stunning 60 meters and then by bulky forward Chathuranga Mendis showing the variation that the St. Peter’s bring to their attack (33-0). In the last minutes of the first half the visiting team score two more tries, one by fly half Dulaj Perera and the other through the forwards making the score 47-0.
Close shave for Trinity
When Trinity met Isipathana for the Singer Schools Rugby league encounter at the CR&FC grounds, much was expected from both teams and boy didn’t they deliver!! The crowd, as expected with these two rugby crazy schools in action, was there in numbers on a fabulous Sunday evening. The evenings proceedings kicked off by paying respect to the recently deceased former Thomian, Havies and national ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.
Vidyartha Make History
Vidyartha College managed to come out victorious after a thrilling clash with Kingswood College today at Nittawella stadium after fly half A.J. Bandara scored a try in the dying minutes of the game. The game literally kept Vidyartha fans on the edge of their seat and even though their team drew first blood against the rivals they were soon trailing by a huge margin and it seemed hope had left their hearts. But a slight mishap in the Kingswoodian defense gave them the break which they were waiting for and pocketed the second win of the season. Kingswood led 12-8 at lemons but they were unable to capitalize on the weak points of Vidyartha College due to unruly behavior which in turn earned them four sin binned players including skipper Uvin Ariyarathne. Final score was Vidyartha College 20 points (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to Kingswood College 17 points (1 goal, 2 tries) .
Dharmapala and Co. thrash St.Anthony’s
Science College registered their second win of the season thrashing a helpless St.Anthony’s outfit with a second half rally to score a 36(4 Goals, 1 Try, 1 Drop Goal) - 0 point victory. The boys from the hill country continued their slump and failed to impress the reasonable crowd present at the Science College grounds and as a result didn’t trouble the scorers during the entire 80 mins. Science College came into the game as favorites even though they were hindered with four injuries which included their captain. The spectators were not given a treat to watch in the first half by both the teams as both teams looked unsettled and the rugby which was on display was scrappy and uncoordinated. As a result the scorers were not called for their duty in the entire first half and at the breather both teams went in without drawing first blood. Science College had the opportunity of getting on the board through penalties but three opportunities were squandered as a result of some ordinary kicking efforts by their place kicker.
Royal Scrape Through Another Win With A Last Minute Try
Deputy Skipper of Royal College Eroshan De Silva took matters into his own hands at the CR & FC rugby stadium yesterday with three tries when they took on St. Joseph’s College.

A view from the pavilion
A question that gets thrown around very often by the ‘knowledgeable’ folk when it comes to sport and ‘knowledge’ regarding it is 'how much does one really have to know in order to offer an opinion?'. If you've had the fortune of attending a club rugby game or a school big match, you may have by now have gained the slightest of ideas as to what sort of a concept I'm trying to allude to. Picture this; no sooner does a ref blow a whistle and there are dozens (if not hundreds) unleashing rants that range from the eloquent to the downright perverse questioning or affirming the rationality of what has just transpired on the pitch. Some may have an upbringing refined enough to allow him/her to satisfy his frustration with a simple utterance of something like 'bad call, sir' whereas a sarong clad hippie, fuelled by alcohol, orbiting in the upper echelons of insanity may choose to be less polite by calling upon generations of mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers of the individual who he feels has made a blunder. Either way no matter what the lingo, the concept is very much intact; i.e when it comes to sport everyone's got an opinion irrespective of whether it's right or wrong. The only variation lies in how they choose to put forth their thoughts. In my humble opinion that's why sport is a great unifier. More on that later though.

Where is the love?
A wise man once said Rugby is a rowdies’ game played by gentlemen. So what is so gentle about how the players conduct themselves at matches these days. One particular school’s rugby match ended with the referee’s life put in danger because of the behavior of the players. How can these youngsters be expected to have discipline when the example set on them by their role models is far worse?

Cricket, Life and other such things
Cricket is the greatest sport on earth! There I said it, As I type this, I am aware that Sepp Blatter of FIFA fame, is preparing a letter addressed to me, asking that I abscond and apologise for this most heinous statement. “Soccer”, he would growl, is the greatest sport on earth. He might even question my sexuality, advising that I stay away from Qatar in 2022.

WHY ARE TEA BAGS BETTER THAN THE ALL BLACKS? – By MOYYA
If you have a conversation with a cross-section of Sri Lankan rugby enthusiasts, most will say that they support their favorite team the All blacks, to go all the way at this year’s rugby world cup. But the only problem is they had surprisingly bad luck in bringing home World Cup wins since the initial RWC in 1987.According to the New Zealand Herald website, the 1999 All Blacks, a team that were stunned by  France in the Rugby World Cup semi-finals, finished number one in the Times Online 40 greatest chokers in sport list . The 2007 All Blacks team which lost to France in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals ended 20th on the list. In 1999 France was there for a beating. All Blacks and the Wallabies were set to meet in the Millennium Stadium for the finals and the bookies were offering odds longer than Sebastian Chabal’s hair for a conquest by the French. One thing is assured. The French lived up to their repute. As for the All Blacks, thereafter they were called World Cup chokers.
